Wellbeing

Feelings of contentment, enjoyment, confidence and engagement with the world are all a part of mental wellbeing.

At St. Matthew’s we believe that childhood is not preparation for life, but that childhood is life.  This is one of our guiding principles and it energises everything interaction that we have in school and within our wider community.  By focusing on the present, we help to create young people who are securely anchored and feel a strong sense of belonging to their school family.

At St. Matthew’s we always emphasise connection, not correction.  We recognise that every child is unique and lovingly created in the image and likeness of God.  In this knowledge, we always strive to build strong relationships which support pupils in feeling stable and supported.

Sometimes, individual children need additional support because of challenges they are facing in life.  At St. Matthew’s we are committed to making sure that every child gets the right support at the right time.  We will always strive to have an open and honest dialogue with parents and when the time is right, we utilise our strong links within school health and other services to offer support.

Our doors are always open.  If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing then please come to speak with us. We will always listen.
